Privacy Policy

Your trust matters more to us than almost anything else. Here's exactly what we collect, what we don't, and what we'll never do.
What we collect
Pre-launch (now): only your email address when you join the waitlist, and the language you signed up in. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is privacy-friendly and uses no cookies. After launch: the records you choose to store with us — encrypted at all times.
What we don't do
We don't sell your data. We don't share with advertisers. We don't use your records to train AI. We don't track you across other websites. We don't use third-party trackers.
How we secure it
All sensitive data is encrypted at rest using strong cryptography. Family unlock requires a password you set, and is protected by a confirmation flow: when someone enters a family password, we email you first and wait up to 72 hours (configurable) for you to approve or deny before unlocking. If you can't respond, the unlock proceeds automatically — protecting both your privacy while you're alive and your family's access when you're not. We never have plaintext access to record contents. Our roadmap includes upgrading to true zero-knowledge end-to-end encryption.
Your rights
You can request deletion of your data at any time by emailing privacy@heirlooms.app. We respond within 7 days. You can export everything you've recorded at any time from your account.
Your data is yours — not ours to hold
We commit to lifelong data portability. You can export every record you've made, in standard formats (JSON + plain HTML), at any time. If Heirloom ever ceases operations, we will: (1) give you at least 6 months' advance notice; (2) provide a final export that includes a self-contained, offline-viewable HTML version of your records; (3) open-source the decryption tooling so anyone — you or a future custodian — can read your data without us. Your records were never ours; we just kept them safe.
