Terms of Service

Last updated: April 2026

Plain-language terms. We've kept these short and direct so you actually read them. They tell you what we promise to do — and just as importantly, what we won't try to do.

What Heirloom is

Heirloom is a recording-and-delivery tool. You write down what your family will need. We keep it safely encrypted. When the time comes, your family unlocks it with a password you set — and reads what you wrote. That's the entire service: writing, storing, delivering. Three things, nothing more.

What we do — and what we leave to others

Heirloom is one part of a complete plan. Most families also rely on: · A **lawyer** for the legal will (who inherits what) · An **accountant** for taxes and final filings · An **insurance broker** for life and health policies · A **financial advisor** for investments and retirement · And — most importantly — **honest conversations** with the people they love Heirloom is none of those. We don't write legal wills. We don't give financial or tax advice. We don't sell or evaluate insurance. We don't act as your executor — we won't call your bank, file your paperwork, or close your accounts when you're gone. Those are your family's responsibility, working with the right professionals. What we do is the part nobody else does: keep all your information in one place — accounts, wishes, the location of every important document, the passwords your family needs, the words you want them to hear — and deliver it to them when the time comes. Encrypted. Bilingual. Quietly. With care. Think of us as the starting point. Your family begins with what you wrote here, then works with their lawyer, accountant, and the others to do what needs to be done. We make sure they have somewhere to begin.

What you agree to

You agree to use Heirloom for its intended purpose — recording your own information for your own family. Don't store other people's sensitive data without their consent. Don't use Heirloom for unlawful purposes.

Disclaimers and our liability

We provide Heirloom "as is." We do our best, but we cannot guarantee uninterrupted service or that your data will be perfectly preserved against all possible failures (power outages, server failures, undiscovered software bugs, acts of nature). We strongly recommend you also keep your most critical information in physical form — a sealed envelope with your lawyer or in a safe deposit box. Our liability is limited to the amount you've paid us. If you bought Essentials for $59 and we somehow caused you damage, our maximum liability is $59. We are not responsible for indirect or consequential damages — including, but not limited to, family disputes, legal disputes, missed inheritance, or anything that happens because of what someone reads (or doesn't read) here.

Termination

You can close your account anytime. If you stop paying maintenance fees, your data is preserved and family unlock continues to work — you just can't edit. After 5 years of inactivity (no logins, no payments), we may archive your account, but we will email you multiple times before doing anything. If we ever shut Heirloom down, we will give you 6 months' notice and provide a final export — see our Privacy Policy.
